Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Training over the years is a great journey, from the beginning as a fumbling white belt to the prision and well oiled machine of an accomplished brazilian jiu jitsu black belt... Some would even say the to receive the black belt in brazilian Jiu Jitsu is just the beginning of this great journey.
As for myself when I received my blue belt in bjj I thought that was the start of my journey now after receiving my purple belt, again I feel like this is just the start, I will just have to change my outlook, look on my advanced grading's as stepping stones.
Brazilian jiu jitsu training 2-3 days per week It can take up to 13 years before receiving a black belt, probably take less time to to become a brain surgeon, probably get a shit load more money, but hey that isn't going to help you much if you get jumped walking down a dark alley.
Anyway...Here are a few tip from me for any Jiu Jitsu PLAYERS STARTING OUT.
1/ Learn to control your opponents head, just think about it, if his head is pinned to the floor, he's not about to get up in any hurry!
2/ Start from the stand up position as often as possible while training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as convenient and safe as it is to start your fights on the ground, in a real life situation or in competition, you will never start on the ground, this is where you need all your skills, the most important position, you will need to practice this.
3/ Train at least 2-3 times per week if you really want to advance in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Train once per week and you will hardly remember what you learned last week.
Train twice per week and you will advance...but slowly.
Train 3 or more times per week and your jiu jitsu will improve rapidly.
4/ After Brazilian jiu jitsu training, go home, run a hot bath, soak in it for at least an hour... Not only will it bring your body back to life...But most importantly, lie there and bring back to life the training you just had, the submissions you just pulled off, or how you controlled that brown belt for 3 seconds, what you could have done if only you had been able to get your arm or leg in an exact position, something you can adjust next time you roll.
